After an FBI alert, the Los Angeles police announced that around 1,000 private security agents will be deployed to protect the Dolby Theatre on Sunday (15) during the Oscar ceremony.

The FBI said that “Iran allegedly intended to carry out a surprise attack” against unspecified targets in California as retaliation for the war.

“We have the support of the FBI and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and it is a very close collaboration,” said executive producer Raj Kapoor at a press conference before the event on Wednesday (11).

“It’s something we do not take lightly and we assume a great deal of responsibility,” Kapoor added. “We take this very seriously and with great care.”

The executive said that the ceremony needs to “run like clockwork.”

“We want everyone who comes to the event, watches the ceremony, or even the fans standing outside the barriers to feel safe, protected, and welcome,” he said.

Police will deploy uniformed officers, surveillance cameras, and drones. In addition, the department will activate special units such as SWAT teams and bomb-sniffing dogs.

As soon as the ceremony begins, the location will be completely sealed off.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said he is working together with the FBI and is in “constant coordination with security and intelligence authorities” to monitor possible threats to the state.
